THE HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR 8 DAY ITINERARY

Of course, with over 1,000 islands to choose from and ever-changing sea conditions, this itinerary is subject to change. But one thing is certain—our private yacht gives us a front-row seat to Croatia’s hidden coves, secluded beaches, and dramatic shorelines that land-based travelers never get to see.

Over eight unforgettable days, you can explore Dubrovnik’s medieval walls, swim in Mljet’s emerald lakes, sip wine in Korčula, or go dancing in hot spot, Hvar. We’ll slow down in Lovište, savor fresh oysters in Ston, and soak in the creative magic of the Adriatic wherever we go.

This trip is as much a feast for the palate as it is for the soul. You’ll have the chance to dine at everything from cozy, family-run konobas to Michelin-starred restaurants, and on the boat, we'll be indulging in the very best of Croatia’s coastal cuisine.

Here’s what your Croatian odyssey looks like, day by day…

Dubrovnik

PEARL OF THE ADRIATIC

We kick off in Dubrovnik, aka King’s Landing, where you can walk the ancient city walls, channel your inner Game of Thrones character, or simply soak in the cinematic beauty before charting a course for Šipan, where a sunset aperitivo await. Dubrovnik, often referred to as the Pearl of the Adriatic, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a mesmerizing blend of medieval history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. From its imposing city walls to its crystal-clear waters, Dubrovnik is a place that has captivated visitors at every turn since the 7th century.

We'll board the boat in the afternoon in Dubrovnik, settle into our cabins and then head to Šipan in time for a sunset swim or an evening aperitivo on our first evening on board Riva.

Sipan

THE GOLDEN ISLAND

Šipan, the largest of the Elaphiti Islands near Dubrovnik, is a hidden gem known for its peaceful charm, lush vineyards, and olive groves. Šipan is referred to as the Golden Island and we're sure to have a spectacular evening aperitivo golden hour and a gorgeous first evening under the stars. With two main villages, Šipanska Luka and Suđurađ, the island offers stunning coastal views, historic stone villas, and pristine beaches. Once a retreat for Dubrovnik’s nobility, Šipan remains a serene escape its unspoiled nature and laid-back atmosphere make it truly special. It holds the Guinness World Record for having over 300,000 olive trees!

Mljet

SALTWATER LAKES & THE NATIONAL PARK

Next, we arrive at Mljet, an island so breathtaking that Odysseus himself was supposedly held captive here for seven years (by a nymph, no less). You can bike through Mljet National Park, swim or just marvel at the emerald saltwater lakes, and tap into the kind of deep creative inspiration that only a place like this can provide. Pomena, a charming seaside village, serves as the gateway to the park, with scenic trails, kayaking, and cycling. The Benedictine Monastery on St. Mary’s Island adds historical charm. Tranquil and untouched, Mljet is Croatia’s most serene island retreat.

Korcula

BIRTHPLACE OF MARCO POLO

Korčula, often called “Little Dubrovnik,” is a stunning Croatian island rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. In Korčula, it’s wine-tasting or off-road buggies, exploring medieval streets and sipping local vintages. The medieval Old Town, with narrow stone streets and Venetian architecture, is said to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, the island offers beautiful beaches, vineyards producing Grk and Pošip wines, and lively folklore traditions like the Moreška sword dance. Korčula’s blend of history, nature, and charm makes it truly special. And we'll be soaking it all in!

Hvar

SUNNIEST SPOT IN ALL OF EUROPE!

Hvar, Croatia’s sunniest island, is famous for its vibrant nightlife, stunning beaches, and lavender fields. The medieval Hvar Town boasts Venetian architecture, a lively marina, and the historic Fortica Fortress with breathtaking views. Beyond the glamour, the island offers serene coves, vineyards producing Plavac Mali wine, and charming villages like Stari Grad. A blend of luxury, history, and natural beauty makes Hvar one of Croatia’s most beloved destinations. You can even feast on a traditional Peka dinner or dance under the stars at the infamous Carpe Diem!

Loviste

THE ULTIMATE RESPITE

We slow down in Lovište, an untouched bay perfect for floating, journaling, and fully embracing the art of doing nothing (it's called FJAKA). Lovište is a peaceful fishing village on the Pelješac Peninsula, and is a hidden Croatian paradise. Known for its tranquil bays, crystal-clear waters, and unspoiled nature, it’s perfect for a quiet retreat. The area’s calm seas make it ideal for swimming, kayaking, and sailing. Fresh seafood, stunning sunsets, and a laid-back atmosphere define Lovište, making it a favorite for those seeking a relaxing escape away from the crowds.

Ston

FOODIE & OYSTER PARADISE

Ston, a small coastal town on the Pelješac Peninsula, is famous for its medieval stone walls, some of the longest in Europe. We'll experience the incredible oyster farm, wine and salt pans, Ston is a foodie’s paradise offering some of Croatia’s best seafood.

Then we head back to Dubrovnik for our last night.

Dubrovnik

EPIC GOODBYES

Finally, we return to Dubrovnik, wrapping up our one-of-a-kind Croatian odyssey with a private tour and a Captain’s Dinner—toasting to adventure, beauty, and creative renewal. We say goodbye over one final breakfast on board then head off to other adventures or back to home base.

This isn’t just a trip—it’s an invitation to experience Croatia in a way few ever do. Are you in?

sample of our itinerary

SUBJECT TO CHANGE
  • Day 1 SATURDAY:

    DUBROVNIK → ŠIPAN

Our adventure kicks off in Dubrovnik, a city so cinematic it was basically born to be a film set (hello, Game of Thrones fans). Walk its ancient walls, get lost in its winding alleys, or sip a cappuccino in a sun-drenched square—whatever you do, soak it all in.

By 4 PM, we board our private yacht and sail toward the peaceful island of Šipan, where the only thing on the agenda is pure relaxation. Swim, sip, repeat. As the sun melts into the horizon, we’ll feast under the stars, officially kicking off a week of beauty, inspiration, and unapologetic indulgence.

  • Day 2 SUNDAY:

    ŠIPAN → MLJET (POMENA)

Wake up to the gentle rocking of the boat, the scent of salt air, and the promise of another unforgettable day. Today, we set course for Mljet—an island so dreamy, legend has it Odysseus got stuck here for seven years. (Can you blame him?)

We’ll rent bikes and explore Mljet National Park, where two surreal saltwater lakes shimmer in shades of emerald. Swim, sketch, journal—whatever fills your creative cup. The evening? Another decadent onboard dinner as the sky blushes pink and gold.

  • Day 3 MONDAY:

    MLJET → KORČULA

Next stop: Korčula, aka “Little Dubrovnik.” Think cobblestone streets, hidden courtyards, and history at every turn. Today, choose your own adventure:

    • Hop into a buggy and zip through the island’s rugged landscapes, stopping for local delicacies along the way.
    • Indulge in a wine-tasting at Korta Katarina, where the pours are as rich as the history.

Dinner is onshore tonight, where you can savor the magic of Korčula’s culinary scene—whether it’s a cozy konoba (traditional tavern) or a chic waterfront spot.

  • Day 4 TUESDAY:

    KORČULA → HVAR

Welcome to Hvar, the island of lavender fields, Venetian architecture, and a nightlife that can outlast your best intentions.

By day, we’ll roam Hvar Town, take in panoramic views from the Spanish Fortress, and maybe even pop into a beach club for a cocktail (or two).

  • By night, we gather for a traditional Peka feast at Maha Farm, where lamb or octopus is slow-cooked under a bell-shaped iron lid. Feeling wild? Carpe Diem Beach Club awaits, with music and moonlit dancing on a tiny island.
  • Day 5 WEDNESDAY:

    HVAR → LOVIŠTE

After an evening in Hvar, today is all about slowing down. We’ll anchor in Lovište, a tranquil bay where the only thing on the schedule is bliss.

Swim in the glassy sea, stretch out on deck with a book, or tap into your creativity—paint, write, daydream, repeat. This is the art of doing nothing, FJAKA (and doing it well).

Dinner is served on board so you can and after you can enjoy some stargazing, because at this point, we’re basically characters in our own epic lives.

  • Day 6 THURSDAY:

    LOVIŠTE → STON

Calling all food lovers—today’s destination is Ston, home to the best oysters in Croatia (arguably, the world?). We’ll visit a local oyster farm and taste these briny gems straight from the sea, washed down with a crisp glass of Dalmatian white wine.

Afterwards, wander the medieval walls of Ston (second in length only to the Great Wall of China) or simply soak up the charm of this seaside village.

  • Day 7 FRIDAY:

    STON → DUBROVNIK

Our final full day is a love letter to Dubrovnik. As we sail back, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the magic of the past week—the places we’ve explored, the inspiration we’ve gathered, the friendships we’ve made.

Back on land, you’ll have the option of a private walking tour tailored to your vibe—cultural deep dive, historical journey, or one last Game of Thrones fix.

Tonight, we celebrate in style with a Captain’s Dinner onboard—toasting to adventure, creativity, and the stories we’ll be telling for years to come.

  • Day 8 SATURDAY:

    FAREWELL, ADRIATIC

With full hearts (and maybe an extra suitcase of Croatian wine), we say goodbye to this incredible journey. After breakfast, we disembark at 9 AM—but let’s be real, a piece of your soul is staying behind in these waters forever.

"The location, the people, the hosts and the food were all sensational.

You are both truly unique and talented leaders. It is a gift for anyone who has the opportunity to be in your presences at one of your retreats.

Thank you for giving us time and space to expore, paint, take photowalks, drink wine and eat way too much food. I can't wait to do it, again, on another one of your retreats." -Katy M.

     about

Croatia

"If you want to see paradise on Earth, come to Croatia” -George Bernard Shaw

Croatia

Croatia has always been a muse for dreamers and creatives. Its ancient streets, dramatic cliffs, long history and vibrant culture spark inspiration like no place else.

And let’s be honest—just walking through Dubrovnik feels like you’re starring in your own epic (minus the Game of Thrones dragons - yes it was filmed here!).

Croatia’s beauty is etched into its 1400 year history, its architecture, and artistic legacy. From its role as a crossroads of Mediterranean and Central European influences to its position as a haven for creatives through the ages, Croatia has always been a place of inspiration, innovation and exploration. Its the birthplace of Marco Polo and Nikola Tesla and also renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović and Marin Držić, a 16th-century playwright often likened to Shakespeare. The country continues to inspire artists, photographers, and writers drawn to its light, landscapes, and history.

Modern day artists: everyone from George Lucas to George Bernard Shaw to Gordon Ramsey also have loved the beauty and culture of Croatia. There’s a reason why epic films like Star Wars were filmed here.

the dalmatian islands

AND THE CROATIAN COASTLINE

Croatia has over 3600 miles of stunning coastline, over 1000 islands and impressively gorgeous mountains. With the Dinaric Alps in the background, you don't just get the best of both mountain and Mediterranean scenery (and absolutely drool-worthy photos), but the geology of those towering alps is also a big reason that the Adriatic Sea is unmatched in its crystal clear clarity.

What an amazing week! I’m not sure what I was expecting but it was just a wonderful experience. A beautiful spot that I will remember for a long time. I’ve met just wonderful people who I’ve learned from and shared with and laughed a lot. I’ve tried and learned and laughed a lot from drawing, talking about color and  playing pool - all outside my comfort zone, but so fun. And most importantly I’ve thought about focusing on and appreciating the detail - in people, the food (!), and everything else. Thank you! --Heather Rutherford

WEATHERLY & LIZZIE

Weatherly

STROH

Weatherly Stroh, a full-time artist and lifelong equestrian, traveler, dog-lover and adventurer who is passionate about exploring the world and capturing its beauty through her art.

Since 2011, she’s been living her dream as a professional painter, and her love for travel has deeply influenced her creative journey. Weatherly first visited Croatia a few years ago and instantly fell in love with the country’s rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant energy.

The magical light, stunning vistas, and sensory delights left a lasting impression on her, as did the crystal-clear waters and the countless islands that dot the Adriatic Sea.

It was on this visit that she discovered Dalmations are not only cute, spotted pups, but also tall and easy on the eyes! She’s thrilled to return to share her passion and personal experience with her retreat guests in this unforgettable destination.

Lizzie

LAROCK

Lizzie is a writer, photographer, and positive psychology-based coach who teaches people how to snap out of autopilot and start living like they mean it. She’s worked with everyone from CEOs, lawyers, wild adolescents to skeptical accountants, proving that creativity isn’t just for "artsy" people—it’s for everyone (yes, even those who say they aren't creative).

Her fine art photography has been featured in galleries—even though she shoots almost everything on her iPhone, which can be either wildly impressive or mildly infuriating to anyone lugging around a fancy, big camera (yes she has those too). Through her signature Life Feast mashup of curiosity, awe, mindfulness, and photography, Lizzie helps people see the world (and their own lives) in a whole new way.

A lifelong pizzatarian, Lizzie is ready to enjoy as much Croatian seafood as she can get her hands on. Consider it a bold culinary pivot… or just an elaborate excuse to eat her way through the Adriatic.

She also cannot wait to wander the streets of Croatia, take an unreasonable number of #ceilingselfies, and probably lie on the ground in some ancient alleyway just to get the perfect shot. If you don’t find her staring up at architecture, she’s probably off chasing the exact right light—or convincing you that your camera roll is your secret creative superpower.

Weatherly and Lizzie have been close friends for over 40 years.

Weatherly has always been taller and Lizzie has always been louder, but we've shared a deep friendship along with a mutual love of art, creativity, travel and a hilarious history of tweenage and teenage shenanigans. Don't ask us about the Guns 'n Roses Toledo Speedway incident in 1991... or our comical incidents trying to park in Tuscany in 2023.

We started Art of Life Creativity Retreats because we firmly believe that filling your creative cup is way more fun when it's happening in a gorgeous place, surrounded by kindred spirits—new, old, and the ones you just met but already want to be in a lifelong travel and creativity cult with!

Our 12-person professional crew (yes, TWELVE—because why lift a finger when you don’t have to?) will make sure we’re living our absolute best lives. A private chef whipping up gourmet meals? Check. Your North Star

For eons sailors have used the stars above to find their way. This retreat is just that. It’s more than just navigating the coastline—it’s about you finding your own personal North star especially if that internal star feels a little dim, lately.

Whether you’re reconnecting with your creativity, rediscovering joy, or simply following a tug toward adventure (or Jason Mamoa’s hangouts!), this voyage promises to align you with what matters most. YOU!

find your fjaka

THE DALMATIAN SECRET TO BLISS

In Croatia, there’s a word for that dreamy, sun-soaked state of pure ease: fjaka. It’s a full-body sigh, a soul-deep exhale, the ultimate permission to just be.

Think of it as the Croatian cousin to il dolce far niente—the sweetness of doing nothing—but with a salty sea breeze and zero guilt. Some call it the Mediterranean version of mindfulness. We call it bliss.

Mornings with yoga on a sun-dappled deck. Afternoons lounging by the sea. Evenings of laughter under the stars. By the end of the week, you won’t just know fjaka—you’ll be fjaka. You won't fjaking believe you've been missing out on this your whole life!

have questions?

"5 stars! Would highly recommend!

I have had so much fun, laughed so hard, and I learned so much about the world and myself. I made new friends, learned how to tap back into my creative self that's been long dormant and was welcomed with such warmth.

I can now paint in gouache, curse in Italian and know how to look for 3 good things. And I can't wait for your next retreat." - Sue

creativity, connection, camaraderie

AND CROATIA!

Not only will you be immersed in all things creativity, cuisine, culture, camaraderie, and connection, but there will be time for just relaxing.

Our retreats aren’t about how artistic or creative you are (not even a little), how many activities we can pack into a week (spoiler: a lot, but in a good way), or how mind-blowingly good the food is (it is delicious, bring your stretchy pants), this retreat is about being fully awake and alive to all the best parts of life!
